The Roseate Spoonbill, a large wading bird with pink plumage and a distinctive spatulate bill, is one of the most striking birds found in North America. They inhabit marshes, swamps, ponds, and rivers within their range, feeding in both fresh and saltwater wetlands. Highly gregarious, Roseate Spoonbills breed and travel in flocks. ~ nationalzoo.si.edu

Hummingbirds are among the smallest of birds, and include the smallest existing bird species, the Bee Hummingbirds. They can hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings 12–90 times per second (depending on the species). Hummingbirds can also fly backwards, and are the only group of birds able to do so.  They can fly at speeds exceeding 34 miles/hour.

Their heart rate can reach as high as 1,260 beats per minute. They also consume more than their own weight in nectar each day, and to do so they must visit hundreds of flowers daily. Hummingbirds are continuously hours away from starving to death, and are able to store just enough energy to survive overnight. ~  Wikipedia

Flying might not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price. ~  Amelia Earhart

Amelia  Earhart was a noted American aviation pioneer and author. She was the first woman to receive the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross, awarded for becoming the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.  During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. Fascination with her life, career and disappearance continues to this day. ~ Wikipedia
